Following the prophet's death, these written or memorized parts of the Quran were compiled by the companions.

During the time of Caliph Uthman, a standardized version of the Quran, known as the Uthmanic codex, was established. This version is considered to be the archetype of the Quran that is known today. However, it should be noted that there are variations in readings, although these mostly consist of minor differences in meaning.

For Muslims, the Quran is seen as God's final revelation to humanity, a work of divine guidance revealed to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel. It holds a significant place in religious faith and is revered by believers.

Many Muslims place great importance on respecting the written text of the Quran. Some adhere to a strict interpretation of Quran 56:79, "none shall touch but those who are clean," and therefore believe in performing a ritual cleansing with water (Wudu or Ghusl) before touching a copy of the Quran. However, it's important to note that this belief is not universally held among all Muslims.

The content of the Quran covers various aspects of basic Islamic beliefs, such as the existence of God and the concept of resurrection. It also includes narratives about early prophets, ethical and legal teachings, historical events from Muhammad's time, and guidance on charity and prayer. The verses of the Quran contain general exhortations regarding right and wrong and use historical events to illustrate moral lessons. Muslims also interpret verses related to natural phenomena as evidence supporting the authenticity of the Quranic message.
